Addiction is more than substance use. Today we understand that out-of-control behavior — with alcohol, drugs, sex, pornography, technology, or even another person — shares the same underlying patterns as chemical dependency: cravings, compulsivity, loss of control, and consequences that keep mounting despite your best efforts to stop.

At McMillan Behavioral Health and Addiction Services, addiction is in our name because it's at the center of what we do. Mark McMillan, LMSW, CAADC is one of a small number of outpatient addiction therapists in Metro Detroit who holds both a Licensed Master Social Worker credential and a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor certification from the State of Michigan — meaning you get clinical mental health care and specialized addiction treatment in one place.

If you're ready to take the first step, we're ready to meet you there.

What we treat

MBHS provides outpatient addiction therapy for a wide range of substance use and behavioral addiction issues, including:

Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) From binge drinking to court-ordered alcohol treatment, MBHS offers individualized outpatient therapy for all levels of alcohol misuse. Mark McMillan specializes in alcohol use disorder and works with clients navigating everything from early-stage concern to long-term recovery.

Drug & Substance Use MBHS provides therapy for cocaine, marijuana, opioid use, and other substance use disorders, including Chemsex and PnP. We work closely with higher-level treatment centers to coordinate care when a referral to Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOP) or a residential program is the right next step.

Behavioral & Process Addiction Addiction isn't always chemical. MBHS specializes in behavioral addictions including sex addiction, pornography addiction, masturbation compulsivity, technology dependence, dating app misuse, gaming addiction, and social media abuse. These out-of-control behaviors carry the same shame, consequences, and loss of control as substance addiction — and they deserve the same quality of care.

Co-Occurring Mental Health Conditions Addiction rarely travels alone. MBHS treats the full picture — including depression, anxiety, trauma, and PTSD that frequently co-occur with substance use and behavioral addiction.

Our approach

There is no cookie-cutter treatment plan at MBHS. Every client begins with a thorough assessment, and treatment is built around your specific situation, history, identity, and goals.

We offer non-traditional, evidence-informed recovery pathways including Dharma Recovery and SMART Recovery — alongside more traditional approaches — because we believe the right recovery plan is the one that actually fits your life.

MBHS is an LGBTQ+-affirming practice. We understand that LGBTQ+ individuals face unique risk factors when it comes to addiction, including the impact of minority stress, identity-based trauma, and years of navigating systems that weren't built for them. Our care is informed, inclusive, and free of judgment.
